Truth-in-Sale of Housing (TISH) Inspections


 
 



The Saint Paul Truth-in-Sale of Housing (TISH) inspection is a visual overview/evaluation of a building’s components and fixtures. This required inspection is to inform prospective buyers the condition of a dwelling at the time of the evaluation.

Single Family homes in St. Paul are required to have a hard-wired smoke detector. Click here for more information on this requirement. Besides this smoke detector requirement, no other items are required to be repaired.

TISH inspections typically take an hour to complete. Reports are submitted to the City of St. Paul and emailed to the homeowner (or other interested parties) the same day.

To ensure the quality of housing available in the City of Minneapolis, the Truth in Sale of Housing (TISH) evaluation is required for any sale of a single-family house, duplex, townhouse, or first-time condo conversion. TISH ENERGY DISCLOSURE REPORT

Truth-in-Sale of Housing evaluators also collect additional information on the energy efficiency of a home. This data is used to create an Energy Disclosure Report (located at the end of the full Truth in Housing report). The goal of this initiative is to provide homeowners and prospective buyers with the general energy performance of a home. The report will also give recommendations on what could be done to improve the energy efficiency.

The inspection takes around an hour to complete. The TISH report is delivered via email to the homeowner (or other interested parties) submitted to the City of Minneapolis the same day as the inspection. If repairs are required, a re-inspection of the property is necessary. These repairs can be completed by the homeowner or home buyer. Click here to see a list of some of the required repaired items.

The purpose of the Maplewood Truth-in-Housing program is to protect the public health, safety and welfare & to promote decent, safe and sanitary dwelling accommodations in the city. This inspection takes about an hour to complete. The Truth-in-Housing inspection report is delivered to the homeowner (or other interested parties) via email the same day as the inspection and a hard-copy of this document is sent to the City of Maplewood via the USPS.
