St. Paul TISH / Truth-in-Sale of Housing - FAQ’s

What separates you from other TISH inspectors?

There’s a lot of licensed TISH inspectors to choose from, many are great and very competent. I’ve been licensed for St. Paul’s Truth-in-Sale of Housing program for 10+ years. I’m very efficient with my TISH inspection process that allows me to complete the inspection quickly, communicate my findings to the seller or their Real Estate agent & have a quick turnaround time for TISH reports.

How long does the st. paul tish inspection take?

A St. Paul TISH inspection usually takes around an hour to complete. Weather permitting, I usually start the inspection outside (exterior of the house) and garage. This takes 10 - 20 minutes. I then move to the interior of the house starting on the upper level and usually finish in the basement.

When can i expect my st paul tish report

The report is delivered to you via email and submitted to the City of St. Paul usually just a couple hours after the completion of the inspection.

What’s do you look for?

St. Paul has a Uniform Guidelines that are followed by each licensed inspector. This includes evaluating the roof, attic, insulation, plumbing, electrical, basement, heating units, the exterior, garages and many more items. Is there required repairs?

Yes. St. Paul requires hard-wired smoke detectors in single family home. If you’re selling your home and do not have a hard-wired smoke detector installed it’s required to have one installed. Click here to see to St. Paul’s Hard-Wired Smoke Detector Requirement.

Can i follow you around during the inspection?

Yes. However, it’s important that I focus on the task at hand. During TISH inspection I’m evaluating the property and writing the inspection report. I ask that we discuss my findings and save your questions for after the inspection. Also, I’m always available for questions via phone, text or email after the inspection.

I can’t be at the tish inspection or the house is vacant, is that ok?

Yes. I do many TISH inspection where the homeowner isn’t home or the home is vacant. I just need entry instructions (lock box code or Suprakey, etc…). For payment, sometimes homeowners will leave me a check or I can email an invoice to pay with a card.
