Maplewood TISH / Truth-in-
Housing FAQ’s

WHAT SEPARATES YOU FROM OTHER TISH INSPECTORS?

There’s a lot of licensed Maplewood Truth-in-Housing inspectors to choose from, many are great and very competent. I have a vast knowledge of the Maplewood TISH program that allows me to be efficient with my inspection process. This allows me to complete inspections quickly, communicate my findings to the seller and/or their Real Estate agent & have a quick turnaround time for Maplewood TISH reports.

HOW LONG DOES THE Maplewood TISH INSPECTION TAKE?

A Maplewood Truth-in-Housing inspection usually takes around an hour to complete. Weather permitting, I usually start the inspection outside (exterior of the house) and garage. This takes 10 - 20 minutes. I then move to the interior of the house starting on the upper level and usually finish in the basement.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT MY MINNEAPOLIS TISH REPORT?

The report is delivered to you via email and sent to the City of Maplewood usually just a couple hours after the completion of the inspection.

WHAT’S DO YOU LOOK FOR?

Maplewood has Truth-in-Housing Guidelines and Procedures that are followed by each licensed inspector. This includes evaluating the roof, attic, insulation, plumbing, electrical, basement, heating units, the exterior, garages and many more items.

IS THERE REQUIRED REPAIRS?

No. Maplewood’s Truth-in-Housing program is to provide additional disclosure as to the condition of the home. Some clients are proactive and repair items that I have reported on. However, none of the items mentioned in the Maplewood TISH report are required.

CAN I FOLLOW YOU AROUND DURING THE INSPECTION?

Yes. However, it’s important that I focus on the task at hand. During TISH inspection I’m evaluating the property and writing the inspection report. I ask that we discuss my findings and save your questions for after the inspection. Also, I’m always available for questions via phone, text or email after the inspection.

I CAN’T BE AT THE TISH INSPECTION OR THE HOUSE IS VACANT, IS THAT OK?

Yes. I do many TISH inspection where the homeowner isn’t home or the home is vacant. I just need entry instructions (lock box code or Suprakey, etc…). For payment, sometimes homeowners will leave me a check or I can email an invoice to pay with a card.
